Complete Pond Revamp with Wildlife Beach, Baldock
Updated: 13 hours ago

Where it all started
Fittingly, Jack's very first pond job was on Pond Lane in Baldock. The customer was fond of the shape and style of their existing pond and waterfall, but it was tired and in need of a complete revamp. They also wanted to make it more welcoming to wildlife.
The brief
Keep the same overall shape and waterfall style, but rebuild the pond properly and add a shallow beach area so wildlife could get in and out of the water easily.
What we did
The old pond was removed and the hole was levelled and reshaped ready for the new build. Working alongside the customer, we sketched out a rough design and created a new waterfall that kept the character of the original.
The pond was lined using an underlay with a PVC liner the customer had already purchased. A textured liner was added to the beach area to give a natural look, with a rock surround to hide any trace of the liner around the edges.

Rather than the old-school approach of exposed concrete, the custom-built waterfall was finished using foam and shingle to fill and hide joins and crevices, giving it a far more natural appearance. A new filtration system was then installed, and the garden was left clean and ready for the landscapers to complete the surrounding area.

The result
A refreshed pond that keeps the look the customer loved, with a natural-looking waterfall, proper filtration and a wildlife beach that makes it a far better habitat for the creatures that visit.
Jack's Tip: On this job we used the PVC liner the customer had already bought, but for most ponds we'd recommend an EPDM or butyl liner. Fitted correctly with the right underlay, these come with a lifetime guarantee and are far more durable over time.
Services used: Pond construction, bespoke waterfalls, wildlife ponds and filtration.
